Good Morning! from Claudia Suzanne

August 24, 2006

As Mars continues to shine in the night sky and Pluto is downgraded to a dwarf planet, I'm back with some more stuff to share. As always, you are invited to read as much or as little as you like and let me know if you think something is especially wonderful. If you think something is especially awful, please send your complaint to no-one@idon'tcare.com.

And now the news

FYI

From Barbara Bartlein’s People Pro Newsletter:

Few things cost as little yet go so far as encouragement. Words, looks, and gestures boost people’s spirits and motivate them to greater effort and new achievements. Encouragement builds self-confidence and self-esteem. It helps people believe in themselves and their abilities.

Praise and encouragement are not the same. Praise is awarded for a job well done or an achievement, which is one of its primary problems: those who need it most are least likely to get it.Encouragement is given for effort or improvement. It focuses on assets and strengths as a means to contribute to the group and sends the message that “You don’t have to be perfect,” effort and improvement are what is important.

Phrases of encouragement:

  • “I like the way you handled that problem.”
  • “That’s a rough one, but I’m sure you can handle it.”
  • “Thanks; that helped a lot.”
  • “It looks like you spent a lot of time thinking that through.”
  • “I can see you’re moving along.”
  • “Look at the progress you’ve made.”

For more tips on better performance and productivity, go to www.thepeoplepro.com — and tell Barbara Claudia sent you.

Only a few more weeks left to see Dakota Dan's Can-Can Review at the Calico Saloon in Knott's Berry Farm. Look for Tom on the piano every Tues, Wed, Thurs and Sun. After Labor Day, the Can-Can is Can't-Can't until next summer.
