July 30th, 2006

Long time, no newsletter, eh? In response to a number of sticky IT problems, I've abandoned my previous newsletter version (goodbye sun! goodbye animated opening!) and have followed the trend to blogging. It's a new format, but I'll still be providing the same info and kudos that people send to me to share with my wonderful, diverse group of friends, associates, and contacts.

If you'd like me to include your link, please drop me a line.

Onto the news.

____________
KUDOS AGAIN!

"Order from the website, and anyone on Claudia's list can get a discount." Go to www.StoneandScott.com and click on Lone Wolf Editions to read John Zounes’s excellent descriptive essay.

P.R TIPS FROM A P.R. PRO

Cara Good, president of WunderWords offers this advice for maximizing your Public Relations budget:

  1. Compare wire serves for your news releases and tailor your distribution to your needs, not their offer.
  2. Ditch your printed press kit and replace it with a searchable online version.
  3. Speak everywhere you can, even – in fact, especially – for free. Opportunities abound and the visibility is invaluable.
  4. Submit articles summarizing your talks to no-cost Web sites, industry journals, and trade outlets.
  5. Limit the number of trade shows where you exhibit. It might be more cost-effective to reserve a hospitality suite instead.
  6. Develop an expert platform and “introduce key company executives to the media as expert sources.” List yourself on Business Wire’s ExpertSource and PR Newswire’s ProfNet.
  7. Make sure everyone within your circle of influence knows about your media success via a simple email link or message.
  8. Remember that most business is local business. Focus on local trade and business publications before going national. The costs are lower and the results are better.

Cara will present “Communications: The Core Competency of Success” for the Orange County chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO-OC).

When: August 16 and 26, 6-9 p.m. (Two-part workshop)

Where: Hyatt Regency, 17900 Jamboree Road, Irvine, CA

Cost: $90 for NAWBO members, $120 for nonmembers

Info & Registration: http://www.nawbo-oc.org/index.html

THAT’S ALL

Thanks for reading. Please feel free to share this newsletter with others who may be interested and to send in anything you have to share. I receive nothing for the listings above except, of course, from those that pertain directly to me. On the other hand, I bribe easily and gratefully accept all non-deductible donations. Special thanks to Judy Semler for today's closer:

A win, win, win, solution:

Dig a moat the length of the Mexican border. Take the dirt, raise the levies in New Orleans, and put the Florida alligators in the moat.

Are there any other problems you would like for us to solve?
